Pleasant Valley Rural Historic District - Transportation

Woodens Lane

This is another early private farm lane that became a public road connecting Valley Road to the farms further up the road to the north.

Originally a private lane it became a public road early in the 20th century. It first appears on the area maps in 1903.

It is named for the Wooden family who still own a farm to the north of Howell Farm.

This photo shows Woodens Lane looking north from its intersection with Valley Road. The worm fence on the right is a field boundary of the Howell Farm. To the north can be seen part of the ridge formed by Sourland Mountain, the northern boundary of Pleasant Valley.
