The changing banks and bottom of Dry Run Creek make it hard to determine just where early farmers crossed it. Wherever it was, the ford had to be gentle enough to allow descent by a wagon loaded with 5 tons of hay, shallow enough to allow farm machinery to pass, and made so a farmer could cross on stepping stones. The foot bridge is a convenience afforded to modern-day travelers.
