Fences - Post and Rail

Post & Rail

Snake

Osage Orange

Three types of fences can be seen on the Farm - post & rail, snake, and Osage Oragne.  All were common in the area, but their construction was quite different.

Post & Rail was made by putting rails with paddled (tapered) ends into a series of 4 or 5 holes made in posts.  Drilling the posts was laborious, but it was easy to replace the rails and mow along the straight fenceline.
