On April 7, 2001 restoration mason Thom Livingston began work on the fieldstone foundation restoration along the west wall of the original horse barn and the south wall of the original working barn. The first step was to clear away accumulated layers of soil and assess the condition of the foundation.

Work on the foundation continued on April 21 and 28 with Tom Livingston cleaning, resetting, and beginning to mortar the stones. The foundation stones were repointed using a mortar of the same composition as the original.
