In the 1840 US Census the family is found living in Hopewell Township, in recently created Mercer County, on the 140-acre farm purchased by Charles and Andrew in 1838.  While only the head of household is listed by name, it is apparent that Charles is considered the head of household and that the parents of Charles (who died in the 1840s) are living on the farm with him and his unmarried siblings.
