Before the barn was dismantled for storage, measured drawings were made by Elric Endersby of the New Jersey Barn Company in the scale of 1/8 inch = 1 foot. The reproduction above is reduced but still clearly shows the five bay with central threshing floor design that is typical of English style barns. Note that the bents are not of equal width. The drawing shows the location of studs and a close look reveals where doors giving access to the stalls were located in the exterior walls. There were large double doors at either end of the threshing floor to allow access by wagons and there is a smaller, man sized door to the right of the threshing floor door on the Z wall. This was used when it was needed to keep the large doors shut but still enter the barn. The studs shown with the beam on the left side of the threshing floor show how the work sections of the barn were separated on the lower level of the barn. Drawings of several of the bents and the Z wall elevation are shown on other pages. (Drawing reproduced courtesy of the New Jersey Barn Company.) |
