In the photo above, Mac is the horse on the right.  Mac came to the farm in January 1993 along with his brother Jake.  Jake died in 1998 at the age of 14 from a colic-like illness.  Mac will be about 21 in 2006.  Like all of our horses he is a mixture of work breeds and may be about half Percheron with some small saddle horse, such as Quarter Horse, mixed in.  He is our smallest horse at about 14 hands, 3 inches and weighing about 1350 pounds.  He is a very dark bay in color and appears to be black sometimes, especially in the winter.  Before coming to Howell Farm Mac and Jake were raised on a farm in Appalachia in the hills of the East Tennessee/Virginia area.
