Our Jersey cow, Molly, is dry, which means she has no milk.  She is a freemartin twin which means that she is sterile.  In order for cows to give milk they must give birth to a calf.

Visitors often have several misconceptions about Molly.  Some think that she is pregnant due to her size and shape, but since she is sterile this is not possible.  Because she has horns, it is sometimes thought that she is a bull.  Both male and female cows have horns.  Commonly dairy cows have their horns removed as calves but this is not necessary - more a safety measure to prevent injury to other cows and humans working with them.

Molly is getting older and does have eye problems, but she is very friendly and enjoys company.
