Equine

There are 3 sets of work horse teams, Chester and Jack, Bill and Jessie, Tom and Jeb. Their job is to provide power for plowing, harrowing, fertilizing, planting, cultivating, mowing, reaping, and transportation.  Grass, Hay, Oats, and a little corn in the winter, is their diet of choice. The harness (straps and buckles) they wear attaches to the farm equipment and allow them to pull.

If you listen to the farmers, you will often hear them using commands like "Gee" and "Haw".  This frees up the farmer's hands to control the equipment the horses are pulling.  The commands that are most often used are "Get-up" = go, "Whoa" = stop, "Back" = back up, "Gee" = move right, and "Haw" = move left.
